Block 3 – Elite Skills, THURSDAYS
THURSDAYS | Block 3 – Elite Skills: Hockey IQ & Scoring Habits
Block 3 completes the full development cycle for the season. After building strong individual skills in Block 1 and applying them in pressure situations in Block 2, this block focuses on the most important part of modern hockey: Reading the game, creating offense, and developing elite scoring habits. Players will learn not only how to execute a skill, but when, where, and why to use it to be more effective in games. This block is divided into 4 key areas: 🔹 Hockey IQ (Offensive Awareness) Reading defensive gaps and choosing the best attack route Understanding F2 & F3 support, spacing, and timing Creating scoring chances through width, depth, and movement Middle-drive habits and how to generate controlled entries Reading pressure and making fast decisions with and without the puck 🔹 Scoring Habits & Shooting Decisions Quick release mechanics in tight areas Catch-and-release shooting under pressure Changing shooting angle to beat the goalie Attacking from the dot lane and high-danger scoring areas Rebound anticipation and net-front instincts 🔹 Playmaking & Puck Support How to create passing lanes in motion The “give-and-go” mindset and quick-touch execution Supporting the puck carrier through smart positioning Reading teammate routes and reacting at game speed 🔹 Small-Area Games & Situational Scoring 2v1, 3v2, and triangle-attack concepts Offensive-zone rotations (cycle, switch, pop-out) Scoring off transitions and turnovers Decision-making in tight spaces with increased pressure 🧠 The Approach As in Blocks 1 and 2, training takes place in small groups (5–6 players) to ensure detailed feedback and correction. Every drill has a clear purpose connected to real-game application Players receive continuous individual feedback on decisions and execution We gradually increase tempo, pressure, and complexity to simulate real games Video examples will occasionally be used to explain hockey IQ concepts This block is designed for players who want to understand the game, create offense, and develop habits that elite players use to score consistently. 📅 Schedule & Details Age Group: Players born 2012–2016 Start Date: Thursday, January 29th, 2026 Time: 6:30–7:30 AM Location: Paramount Ice North York Number of Sessions: 10 Led by Coach Daniel Ershov
